Learning Styles Affect Money Management

There are five basic learning styles: visual, aural, verbal, physical, and logical. You may have learned about them in school, but they can very much affect your adult world, including money management. Finding out what your learning style is will help you tremendously as you keep your finances.

Visual

(spatial)

You learn best using pictures and images.

Aural

(auditory-musical)

You learn best using sound and music.

Verbal

(linguistic)

You learn best using words, both in speech and writing

Physical

(kinesthetic)

You learn best using your body, hands, and sense of touch

Logical

(mathematical)

You learn best using logic, reasoning, and systems

Learning Styles and Money Management

Here are the best ways you can manage money using your learning style.

Visual:

Use graphs, charts, maps, and infographics to understand your budget.

Aural:

Listen to the information about money management, process it, and then explain it out loud.

Verbal:

Talk and write about your money spending.

Physical:

Use your hands to manage your expenses.

Logical:

Use clear systems, classify or group information, and establish patterns in your money spending.

Visual

Utilize financial visual aids. Learn about money management through videos. Create a budget using an app that lets you track spending, savings, and investments.

Aural

With tools like iTunes and Spotify, you can easily find free money management podcasts. Make sure you hear yourself talk about what you’ve learned as well by simply recording your voice and playing it back.

Verbal

Keep a journal or blog and write down your expenses. Write about the mistakes you’ve made as well, to avoid repeating them. Find a friend you can regularly speak to about your progress.

Physical

Use envelopes to help with money management. Determine your budget and split your money into labeled envelopes for expenses like food, rent, insurance, etc.

Logical

Find patterns in your money spending by creating spreadsheets. Use apps to create monthly reports. The more you can categorize your expenses, the better.
